Your Chihuahua Puppy's First Week Home

The first week is about calm, routine, and safety. Keep it low-key and your Chihuahua pup will settle fast.

Have ready before pickup

• The same puppy food we've been feeding (avoid sudden switches).
• Small bowls, a warm bed, pee pads or a potty spot.
• A sweater, a couple of toys, and a small crate or playpen.

First few days

• Keep it quiet — limit visitors and big outings at first.
• Offer food often; watch energy levels (toy breeds can dip low).
• Start a simple potty routine: after waking, eating, and play.
• Let them sleep — puppies need 18–20 hours a day.

Health & vet

• Book a vet check within the first week.
• Keep to the vaccine schedule; hold off on dog-park socializing until cleared.
• Handle paws and mouth gently early — makes grooming easy later.
